Ballweg Criticizes Delays in Compensation and Lifting of Asset Freezes

Acquitted, but no money: Asset freezes still blocked

Although the Stuttgart Regional Court lifted the freezes – €200,000 for Michael Ballweg personally and €131,000 for media access GmbH – Ballweg has so far received only around €100,000 and one vehicle. Neither the public prosecutor’s office nor the asset deposit authority has explained where the rest is.

No automatic process: Compensation must be sued for

The court granted Ballweg a comprehensive compensation claim – for nine months in custody, the house search, and loss of business activity. But there is no legal mechanism for automatic implementation. The defense must file a lawsuit – with estimated costs exceeding €100,000 for court, legal fees, and travel expenses.

"The state made a mistake – but instead of making amends, it puts up new hurdles. That’s not fair treatment of injustice."

A team of attorneys specializing in damage claims is preparing the lawsuit. The case could take years.

Tax office blocks instead of clarifying

The Stuttgart tax office remains inactive. Michael Ballweg’s submitted tax returns have still not been processed – even though the court found there was no tax evasion.

Ballweg sharply criticized the authority’s stance:

"First they claim I didn’t file tax returns. Then you submit them – and the tax office just ignores it."

An arbitrary tax estimate – for example, stating tea is not deductible but coffee is – remains in effect. The defense has therefore filed a lawsuit for inaction.

"Then sue me" – a systemic failure

Michael Ballweg sees the delay tactics as a structural issue:

"They take everything from you and just say, ‘Then sue me’. But I won't play that game. Sooner or later, someone will have to take responsibility."

At the same time, Ballweg calls for support – especially for upcoming legal battles with the Ministry of Finance, which still clings to the unlawful claim that demonstrations are a business model.
